Additional information

This position is in the Excepted Service. For more information regarding Excepted Service employment please visit: https://www.usajobs.gov/help/working-in-government/service/

This is an intermittent position and the applicant reporting assignment will be their personal home address.

Position is eligible for remote work.

A government civil servant that is employed as intermittent is a person hired to work an irregular or occasional schedule, i.e., there is no set schedule of work. The employee compensated only for the time actually worked. This type of employment used to find support when there is a surge in requirements or a short-term mission requirement. Hours of employment are based strictly on the needs of the agency. At WarU, employees hired as Intermittent Employees, are restricted to no more than 1,040 hours of work per year. A "year" starts with the date of employment through the one-year anniversary. This limitation allows WarU to extend the employment of the individual indefinitely as long as there is a viable requirement and funding source. These employees may be appointed to new 1-year term appointments consecutively without limitations if they do not exceed 1040 hours in a year, however the one-year term limitations mean they are not entitled to certain rights under Merit Systems Protection, or certain federal benefits to include death benefits. Although an intermittent employee assigned to a specific WarU Business Unit, the individual may be used for requirements across the enterprise. WarU Intermittent Faculty Employees are subject to all applicable Federal ethics restrictions. In certain circumstances, this could bar intermittent faculty members from receiving compensation from a private corporation to teach a course that is substantially similar to any existing WarU course. Applicants who have questions about how this rule might apply to their particular circumstances are encouraged to review 5 C.F.R. ยง 2635.807 for complete information. As an intermittent, you will not be eligible for a benefits package that includes retirement, social security, and thrift savings (equivalent to a 401(k); health, life, and long term care insurance; accrual of annual (personal) leave, sick leave, and paid holidays.

If you are a current Federal civilian employee in the Federal Competitive Service, if selected, you must sign a statement of understanding acknowledging you are transitioning from the Federal Competitive Service to the Federal Excepted Service.

Initial appointment is made for a period of one year.

WarU employees enjoy flexible work schedules, transit subsidy, and the opportunity to telework. At the supervisor's discretion, the selectee may be able to work remotely.

WarU participates in e-Verify with the Department of Homeland Security and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

If selected for this position, you must be able to start employment within 30 days of acceptance (unless otherwise approved by DAU).

Direct Deposit: All federal employees are required to have direct deposit.

Current Federal Civilian employees may apply for temporary and term positions and if selected, a break in service may be required prior to appointment to the position.

Employed Annuitants (Reemployed Annuitants): Applicants in receipt of an annuity based on civilian employment in the Federal Service are subject to the DoD Policy on The Employment of Annuitants. Click here for more information.

Candidates should be committed to improving the efficiency of the Federal government, passionate about the ideals of our American republic, and committed to upholding the rule of law and the United States Constitution.

How you will be evaluated

Errors or omissions may affect your consideration for employment.

Veterans' preference eligibility is treated as a positive factor when making a selection from external sources. It is applied when the organization makes a final selection from the candidates with substantially equal qualifications as described in the Best Meets Mission Requirements definition below. If you are a veteran claiming veterans' preference, as defined by section 2108 of Title 5 U.S.C., you must submit documents verifying your eligibility with your application package.
