This position is located in the Deposit Copies Storage Section, Records Management Division, Office of Copyright Records, Copyright Office.

As the Materials Handler you will:

Serve as senior member on the team, accountable to the Deposit Copies Storage Section Supervisor.

Perform daily activities, to include but not limited to being responsible for ensuring proper handling and security of sensitive materials.

Handle or oversee one or more product lines; a segment of a large warehouse; or a smaller warehouse or supply facility.

Perform a high degree of independence in determining sequences of loading and unloading, developing space utilization plans, and implementing the movement of materials from dock to bin or from storage to shipping.

Ensure safe receipt, storage, and movement of materials in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.

Assist with the disposal of materials not meeting the criteria.

Perform routine maintenance on the powered equipment, as outlined by equipment manufactures.

Provide assistance in developing plans for storage and arrangement of records and deposits in accordance with agency regulations that determine the configuration set-up, movement, rearrangement, and traffic flow of materials.

Assist in the absence of the supervisor and senior clerks, the incumbent may be assigned responsibility for day-to-day operational activities. 

Perform screening of shipping and receiving documents to identify discrepancies.

Coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments and placement of materials with the docking area. 

The incumbent will receive formal and on-the-job training to oversee hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations.

The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area.

NOTE: This position requires moderate physical effort in a storage environment that includes archival storage conditions (e.g., low humidity and temperatures and air filtration): walking, standing, bending, lifting boxes weighing up to 50 pounds, pushing carts up to 100 pounds, and similar efforts.
After an offer of employment has been made and before commencement of duties, the selectee MUST be physically qualified by the Library’s Health Services Division. A physical examination is required every three (3) years to perform the work of the position.

Qualifications

Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.


Knowledge of warehousing methods, procedures and techniques.**

Ability to receive, locate, store, ship, load, unload, and package materials.**

Ability to operate material moving equipment and vehicles.**

Ability to interpret and apply a variety of guidelines and/or regulations.**

Ability to utilize computer technology and software applications.

Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.

Although it is the Library's policy to afford the maximum pay benefit to employees when setting rates of pay, a new appointee who has had no previous Federal service will generally be paid at step one of the grade.

Therefore, determination to repay a federally insured student loan is subject to approval by the appropriate service unit.
