Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work for approximately January to mid-September and late September to December and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year. Non-pay time period will be 9/12/27-9/25/27.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

  • Operates gasoline- or diesel-powered heavy engineering and construction equipment such as bulldozers, angledozer tractors, backhoes, front-end loaders, excavators, wheel loaders, trench diggers, skid steers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments.
  • Performs earthmoving tasks including pushing, pulling, piling, excavating, backfilling, grading, and leveling on flat or rolling terrain, refuse dumps, or construction sites with simple terrain challenges.
  • Uses assigned machinery safely and effectively to support construction, maintenance, and operational needs across a variety of work environments.
  • Conducts routine operational checks to ensure equipment is functioning properly and reports any mechanical issues to supervisors.
  • Transports, positions, and operates equipment to carry out assigned engineering or construction tasks while adhering to all safety guidelines and procedures.

Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. QUALIFICATION:

For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the work schedule requirement as the service dates will be reflected. SCREEN OUT: Perform common duties of Engineering Equipment Operator WG-5716-08. Perform common tasks such as operating gasoline or diesel-powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler type traction, such as road graders, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, wheel loader, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments. I can operate equipment to push, pull, pile, excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth and/or refuse. Operate end loader in the process of moving dirt and materials, plowing snow and filling trucks. Use dozer to rough in new construction sites, plow snow, rip ice, move stumps, rocks and brush, and stockpile gravel, chips, etc. I can use the grader, loader, dozer and dump truck to remove snow from roads and parking lots. Use equipment to perform functions such as cutting, moving, digging, grading, and rolling earth, sand, stone, and other materials, and to maintain ditches, road shoulders and beds. Load, secure and haul equipment to and from project sites using truck and trailer. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Selective Placement Factor
Commercial Driver's License: Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement and no Air Brake Restriction.

Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is required in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the incumbent is frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. The incumbent may be frequently required to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds and put forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment, and tools.

Working Conditions: This position is required to perform work both inside and outside with most of the work performed outside. When working outside, the incumbent is frequently exposed to inclement weather. The incumbent works in rain, mud, snow, and in hot/cold temperatures and is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from noise, vibration, dust, dirt, fumes, exhaust, oils, heat, cold, and dampness. The incumbent is exposed to the potential of injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning, and may also be subject to receiving cuts, abrasions, bruises, and strains. While operating equipment, the incumbent is required to follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as protective hearing devices and hard hats.
