Duties

Help

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing services in a supervisory capacity. Supervising team leaders with responsibility for coordinating and facilitating workload and activities performed by clerical, technical, administrative, and analytical employees. Providing advice to management officials and participating in the development and promulgation of policy and procedural manuals, including development and maintenance of guidelines and systems for staff. Typical work assignments will include:

  • Plans and assigns work to be accomplished by subordinates; sets andadjusts priorities and sequence of operations to meet deadlines for regular and peak workloads.
  • Reviews work in progress upon completion, as required, or spot-checks work, as appropriate,to assess and improve the quality and quantity of work produced by each employee.
  • Provides new employees with on-the-job experience and training required to perform the work.
  • Prepares performance work plans, performance appraisals and advises employees of theperformance requirements of their positions.

  • Conducts and evaluates interviews candidates for support positions in the Civil Division.
  • Performs detailed legal research of laws, legal opinions, trial transcripts, policies and regulations, Procedure and Evidence, court rules, and legal texts in selecting pertinent facts and applying case laws to those facts.
  • Collects, analyzes and evaluates information to support cases.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

  • You must be a current permanent Department of Justice employee with competitive status or a CTAP/RPL eligible candidate.
  • You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCEGS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level.

Specialized experience is defined as experience performing a variety of analytical paralegal or legal work which demonstrates a practical knowledge of law, the litigation and judicial process, and applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Examples of specialized experiences may include the following: research legal and factual issues and cases as directed by attorneys to include: researching and summarizing factual aspects of cases, analyzing reports, testimony, interviews, files; and research for pleadings, memoranda of law, trial briefs, appellate briefs, complaints, and responses to defense motions: understanding and analyzing facts and legal issues, and interpret and apply applicable law, regulations and policies, exercising independent judgment.
