Duties

Help
  • Provide natural resources support for shoreline management, encroachment, recreation, and real estate programs.
  • Serve as a Natural Resources Specialist (Ranger) for a major water resource project.
  • Observe all safety rules, regulations, and directives applicable to the work assignment.
  • Participates in environmental assessments, monitors river and watershed environments for water quality, and provides security surveillance of critical facilities.
  • Educating the public on project rules, performing surveillance of project lands and waters to prevent unauthorized use and destruction of property.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must wear uniforms prescribed by Corps of Engineers.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) Travel is required up to 10% of the time.

Qualifications

This is a Term Position: Position may be filled as a Term appointment NTE 13 months. Term appointments may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of eight years. May be converted to Permanent without further competition at managements discretion.

SOU Statement: Permanent Federal employees who accept a time-limited appointment will be expected to sign a statement of understanding to acknowledge the associated impacts to their permanent status.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Natural Resources Specialist (Ranger):

A. Degree:
Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience:
Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

GS-05: Specialized Experience: Applicants who meet the basic requirements described above are fully qualified for this grade level.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
