Duties

Help

In order to qualify for this position, you must currently be enrolled in school (or accepted for enrollment), at least half-time.

This position has possible promotion potential. Advancement beyond the entry grade is not guaranteed and is contingent upon meeting all applicable qualification, education, and program requirements.

This position may be non-competitively converted to a WG-08 position after meeting all regulatory requirements (including program and qualification requirements), and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion and/or conversion is neither implied nor guaranteed.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Currently enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, in a 2-year or 4-year college, university, graduate or professional school, that has been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the Secretary of the US Department of Education with enrollment hours at least half-time, as defined by the school in which enrolled.

PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION:
Interns may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) within 180 days of successful completion of the program.
To be eligible for conversion, Interns must:

Complete at least 480 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
Complete their degree or certificate requirements
Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and
Perform their job successfully

The Pathways appointment has promotion potential. Incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.

If converted to the competitive service, the competitive service appointment has promotion potential to WG-08. PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and a current student enrolled in:
1) A high school or home-school curriculum approved by a State or local governing body;
2) An accredited college (including technical, vocational trade schools, two or four year colleges/universities);
3) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school, etc.); or
4) A Certificate Program in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study, that is part of an accredited, college-level, technical, trade, vocational or business school curriculum. Short-term training and/or certificate programs (i.e., several two-week programs completed or class sessions attended over a period of two years) that are not required for the position or which lack sufficient academic rigor, are not considered an acceptable academic course of study.
