Duties

Help
  • Supervise the Advanced Life Support (ALS) EMS program for an assigned shift or station for an Army or Joint Base installation.
  • Provide operational oversight, guidance, and ensures completion of administrative and operational tasks performed by the EMS staff.
  • Develop and implement supply, equipment and vehicle accountability plans for the shift or station.
  • Evaluate paramedics and emergency medical technicians’ performance and adherence to policy.
  • Set priorities and insure timely subordinate performance.
  • Assign work to subordinates based upon priorities, selective consideration of assignment difficulty, and employee capability.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation may be required
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Work is subject to alternate work schedules, rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
  • Incumbents for paramedic EMS positions may be required to pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT) within 30 days of their date of hire and pass the PAT annually.
  • Incumbents hired and assigned to installations deemed as surety sites "having significant toxic industrial chemicals/materials, chemical/biological agents, and/or radiological/nuclear hazards" will have additional requirements to be trained for.
  • Incumbents are required to obtain and maintain a current AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider certification or Red Cross equivalent dependent on installation requirements, within six months of hire.
  • Incumbents are required to have and maintain a current AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider certification or Red Cross equivalent depending on installation requirements.
  • Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid, unrestricted State Paramedic license for the state where the installation is located or a valid National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification at time of hire.
  • This position requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An unrestricted, valid state driver's license is required and must be maintained for the position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Assessing the condition of patients and diagnostic signs in order to establish priority for emergency care; 2) Identifying training needs for personnel and providing training to personnel as necessary; and, 3) Responding to the site of accidents or other emergencies involving injury, illness, or potential environmental risks

Licensure/Certification: Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid, unrestricted State Paramedic license for the state where the installation is located or a valid National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification at time of hire. If they only have one, they must be able to obtain the other within 12 months of hire. (Example, if they have a valid, unrestricted State Paramedic license at time of hire; the incumbent has 12 months to obtain a valid National Registry Paramedic (NRP) or vice versa). *Some states may have other requirements and installations in these states will coordinate with the CHRA office for state specific variances
