***THIS IS A TITLE 5 EXCEPTED NATIONAL GUARD POSITION***

This position is located at one of the following locations, 102d Civil Engineering Squadron, Otis ANGB Massachusetts or 127th Civil Engineering Squadron, Selfridge ANGB Michigan. This is a Title 5 Air National Guard (ANG) Employee position description. The purpose of this position is to serve as a High Voltage Electrician to install, modify, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electric power controlling equipment and/or distribution lines.

Installs, modifies, tests, repairs, and maintains transformers, converters, regulators, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and electronic systems, and other circuit elements found in substations. Adjusts relays and control equipment to obtain specified voltage, current, time delay, and other characteristics for appropriate holding, tripping, or other operational functions.

Installs, modifies, connects, inspects, and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution lines. Services lines, breakers, disconnect switches, transformers, insulators, grounding systems, fuses, poles (metal and wood), relays, meters, lightning arresters, cathodic protection systems, traffic lights, street and floodlight systems, airfield lighting systems, and power supplies. Strings wires and hoists conductors up to the cross arms.

Troubleshoots distribution circuits and generating and controlling equipment. Makes emergency repairs and substitutions of power lines and equipment, sometimes working on distribution systems when they are energized.

Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Frequently works on high voltage electrical systems when they are "hot," using necessary safety equipment, methods, and precautions.

  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours. which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • The incumbent is subject to short or no-notice recall to duty for emergency situations or exercise.
  • Employee may be required to carry a government-provided cellular telephone.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

Your resume must clearly describe experience that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of a High Voltage Electrician at the WG-10 level without more than normal supervision, including high-voltage installation, repair, and troubleshooting. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element will be found ineligible.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
18 months experience or training that demonstrates a knowledge of electrical theory such as power factors and that which is applicable to transformers, series and parallel circuits, line loading, line losses, etc. Ability to read and comprehend circuit diagrams and schematics. Experience in installing, maintaining, repairing, and modifying high-voltage electrical systems and major substation components of electrical systems. Experience in diagnosing trouble and determining remedy when complex relationships exist among different electrical system circuits requiring knowledge of all electrical units and systems. Experience in making high-voltage electrical repairs that required the use of precision measuring equipment and common hand tools.
