This position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS). The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing tasks (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives.

The position is a Housekeeping Aid Supervisor under the direct supervision of the Chief, EMS or designee and has supervisory authority over multiple employees to include a combination of WG-1 and WG-2 Housekeeping Aids, WL-1 and WL-2 Work Leaders, and others as assigned. The position is delegated responsibility for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis. Non-routine duties require that the position reorganize work schedules efficiently to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner.

Other duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Following oral and written instructions, interpreting policies and work procedures as given by the supervisor
  • Keeping supervisor informed about significant trends, changing conditions, and major problem areas
  • Coordinating work with supervisors of other services within the positions area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities
  • Instructing and supervising employees in work operations, conducting inspections of work in progress and completed to ensure cleaning and sanitation objectives and standards have been met
  • Assuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision
  • Planning daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities
  • Training staff and ensuring that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel
  • Inspecting assigned areas routinely, to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner
  • Being responsible for the maintenance, storage and safeguard of housekeeping tools, equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Checking the work of subordinates and evaluating the work for completeness, compliance with procedures and instructions, and sanitation quality standards
  • Instructing housekeeping employees in their duties and determining employee's individual training needs
  • Performing other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Multiple Shifts
  • 1st Shift - 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., with occasional weekends and holidays. Shift days will be set upon Selection.
  • 2nd Shift - 3:30 p.m. - midnight, with occasional weekends and holidays. Shift days will be set upon Selection.
  • 3rd Shift - 11:00 p.m. -7:30 a.m., with occasional weekends and holidays. Shift days will be set upon Selection.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/13/2026.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question one in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The screen out element of this position is:

Ability to perform the duties of the Supervisory Housekeeping Aid without more than normal supervision.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Preferred Experience- These preferences are highly desired but are not required:

  • Experience in healthcare cleaning
  • 3+ years of supervisory background
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Knowledge in infection control; understanding of hospital safety and compliance
  • Efficient in MicroSoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Physical Requirements: The incumbent must be able to continuously walk, stand, stoop, bend, lift, stretch, grasp, climb ladders and scaffolds. Will be required to demonstrate utilization of heavy equipment, weighing 35-50 lbs. Pulling and pushing is equal in weight at 35-50 lbs.

Working Conditions: The incumbent must perform duties in dusty areas, wet floors, and in biological and unsanitary environments that may be hazardous and therefore must practice and instruct methods for personal protective equipment and evident safety and sanitation procedures.
