Duties

Help
  • Operate trucks with gross vehicle weights up to 22,000 lbs. to transport materials inside/outside of the installation.
  • Load/arrange cargo onto vehicles accounting for proper vehicle clearances, turning radius, and braking distances.
  • Direct three or more lower graded warehouse workers in daily tasks assigned by the warehouse supervisor.
  • Review the work of the lower graded workers to ensure tasks are completed correctly.
  • Inventory materials within the department to be able to efficiently receive/issue throughout the facility.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • A pre-employment and annual physical examinations are required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 70 pounds may be required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside Class D driver's license within 30 days of employment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

  • Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator (Materials Handler) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex motor vehicle operator and material handler activities in a warehouse setting. I am skilled in assigning tasks to be performed to other workers based on instructions received from a supervisor. I am able to safely operate vehicles and equipment weighing up to 22,000 pounds. I have the ability to safely load and arrange cargo onto vehicles and in the warehouse. I am skilled at receiving, storing, issuing, and inventorying materials in a warehouse. I am consulted by other workers because of my expertise. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Effort: Performs warehousing work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, and bending and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Light effort is required to operate motor vehicles. Frequently lifts supplies and materials that weigh 70 pounds. May occasionally handle items weighing over 70 pounds
  • Working Conditions: Warehousing work is performed inside warehouses storage areas and on receiving or shipping docks. The areas may be cold, drafty, damp, or hot. Work is performed in close quarters in warehouse or bin aisles, ramps, or platforms. There is exposure to injury from falling stock; from handling materials and from mechanical equipment. Drives in all types of traffic and weather with exposure to possibility of serious accidents, cuts, bruises, and broken bones while driving, loading and unloading.
