What to Expect

  • Manages library collections by periodically assessing materials, performing weeding functions, requesting new items, ensuring proper classification and shelving, and maintaining currency of electronic and phrsical holdings.

  • Oversees the maintenance, cleanliness, and functionality of the library building, equipment, and furnishings. Monitors budget expenditures, supervises the handling of monies received, and prepares internal budgetary requests.

  • Supervises employees to include: assigning and distributing work; coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave; recommending and completing personnel actions; conducting disciplinary actions when necessary; completing performance reviews; signing timesheets; and coordinating staff training and professional development.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What are we looking for?

  • Must have three years of experience that demonstrates knowledge of basic and well-established library procedures related to all aspects of major library functions, including circulation, collection management, reference assistance, and public programming.

  • Must have one year of supervisory experience. Relevant education may be used as a substitute for experience. Knowledge of common library classification schemes. Must have the ability to handle and safeguard money and prepare statistical reports.

  • Knowledge of integrated library systems sufficient to start and shut down the system, run basic reports, and manage patron accounts.

  • Ability to operate standard library and office equipment such as computers, copiers, audiovisual equipment, and microfilm/microprint machines.

  • Ability to interpret and apply safety regulations, conduct safety inspections, and ensure compliance with OSHA and environmental standards.

  • Familiarity with handling, identifying, and properly storing small quantities of hazardous materials (e.g., cleaning agents) in accordance with SDS/MSDS guidelines.

  • Ability to conduct fact-finding or basic investigative activities and prepare clear reports.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift and carry objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.

  • May be required to obtain a valid government driver's license.

  • May be required to successfully complete a Childcare National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI).
