Duties

Help
  • Operate a forklift capable of lifting loads weighing up to 10,000 pounds to load, unload, and move material over various surfaces.
  • Receive, examine and determine the condition and disposition of a wide variety of materials.
  • Interpret procedures, technical manuals, and equipment drawings to verify equipment classification.
  • Knowledge to interpret general warehousing plans for stock in storage areas.
  • Assure items to be shipped/issued are properly marked, tagged and/or properly over packed in suitable containers.
  • Follow general safety practices in operating equipment and performs operator's maintenance on equipment.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless previously completed.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
  • Irregular work hours require after normal duty hours, weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid forklift license.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. I am skilled in 1) Receiving various types of materials, equipment, and components; 2) complying with established procedures to pack materials/items for shipment or storage. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT-Stands, stops, bends and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 50 pounds, and at times may handle items weighting over 50 pounds. Moderate physical effort is used in operating forklift hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting and stopping the forklift and raising, lowering, and tilting loads being moved.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS- The employee typically works indoors and outdoors in an environment involving everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, warehouses, or meeting rooms observance of normal safety practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations as required. All are expected to comply with all health and safety regulations, standard operating procedures (SOP) and OSHA standards. Employees take all reasonable care to ensure their actions do not impact on the health and safety of themselves, other employees or visitors to the organization, and will stop and report such infractions. Individuals shall comply with provisions of AR 385-10, Army Safety Program and the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). Personnel shall wear all safety items required by OSHA and local SOP during the
    performance of tasks requiring personal protective equipment (PPE). Maybe exposed to dirt, dust, oil, grease fume, smoke and irritating fluids and required to wear protective equipment for clean up.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone, no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
