Serves as a Mate/Dredge Control Officer aboard a Corps of Engineers vessel, stands regularly scheduled bridge watches.
Duties consisting of complete navigation and control of the vessel steering or supervision of steering; controlling propulsion systems; operating pilothouse navigation, safety, and emergency equipment; and supervising the dredging functions.
Directs subordinates in making repairs, applying troubleshooting techniques, and installing new equipment.
Prepares correspondence, technical reports, status reports, fact sheets and other documentation for project execution and record keeping requirements.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Must obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S.
Incumbent will be required to undergo a pre-employment physical examination validating ability to lift 45lbs and a evaluation under the District Medical Surveillance Program
This position has been designated as a drug and alcohol testing, needing a DA form 7412 as Conditions of Employment.
Employee will be required to live aboard vessel as an assignment.
Position requires: Tour of duty may be 7 days on, 7 days off, 12 hours per day; 8 days on, 6 days off, 10 hours per day; 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours per day; 15 days on, 15 days off, or 14 days on, 14 days off, 12 hours per day.
This position may require the use of personal protective clothing or equipment.
Work on various inlets and connecting channels along the Atlantic, Gulf Coasts and Caribbean Waters. With limited exceptions, the incumbent is responsible for their own transportation to and from their duty station at crewmembers responsibility.
Must obtain and maintain a government passport within 6 months of employment.

Selective Placement Factor (SPF):

Must possess and maintain a current, U.S. Coast Guard license for Master, near coastal, 1600 gross tons.
Must possess and maintain an able Seafarer/able Bodied and Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC).
Must possess and maintain STCW certification (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) from the US Coast Guard.
