This position serves as an Athletic Trainer (AT) for the Semper fit, Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience (WARR) program to improve the readiness, lethality, and resilience of total force in all domains of fitness-physical, mental, spiritual, and social and foundational building blocks of Marine Corps Total Fitness (MCTF). The incumbent ensures that athletic training modalities are provided to active duty, families, and all authorized users aboard the base in support of military readiness and Musculoskeletal Injury (MSKI) reduction.
MAJOR DUTIES
Utilizes skills in the practice and theory of athletic training to enhance health, wellness, performance, and primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention efforts. Implements and follows policy, practice, and accreditation standards in the areas of physical agents, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), therapeutic exercise, reconditioning, and recovery by providing structured program interventions, reconditioning protocols, and education. Practices and implements programming modalities such as clinical and non-clinical protocols for the MCTF and WARR programs. Supports Marine Corps sports programs such as installation sports, and all-Marine sports teams. May travel to Marine Corps sports related training camps and events as needed.
The incumbent provides prevention, assessment, treatment and reconditioning of injuries sustained by active-duty service members related to military and sports-related injuries. Services provided will fall within the guidelines established by the National Athletic Trainers Association the American College of Sports Medicine, and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and under the direction of the assigned supervisor and Navy Medical physician who functions as the clinical supervisor.
Provides MSKI injury prevention and secondary and tertiary interventions by including by not limited to the following: progressive resistance, open and closed chain kinetic exercise, PNF, manual therapy, muscle synergies, joint mobilization, hydrotherapy, hydrocollator, cryotherapy, ultrasound, phonophoresis, iontophoresis, and muscle stimulation techniques.
Provides emergency first aid, evaluation and treatment of injuries, and aid in preliminary diagnosis to include recognition of severity of injury, rendering initial treatment and performing initial examination.
Provides standardized injury prevention instruction and education in collaboration with embedded athletic trainers and Command staff. Provides training and education in the evaluation and emergency treatment and care of MSKI.
Attends and participates in Marine physical training, strength and conditioning sessions, and provides services as needed during land, water or crossover- based training sessions and supports unit training events in the field and onsite at unit locations providing injury and illness care within the scope of athletic training.
One year of applicable experience that demonstrates knowledge of medical-based comprehensive preventative services of care in six domains of clinical practice: prevention, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate care, treatment, reconditioning, administration, and professional responsibility. Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach from Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association (SCCC) or National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS) is preferred. Collegiate and/or high school athletic playing experience preferred.
Knowledge of physical therapeutic concepts and methodologies to provide secondary and tertiary intervention protocols according to the condition of the client with or at risk for physical disabilities neuromuscular and psychosocial dysfunction.
Working knowledge of Marine Corps directives and policies related to physical performance operational readiness.
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and kinesiology.
Knowledge and ability to conduct immediate clinical evaluations of injuries and illnesses sustained in athletics and the ability to provide first aid and emergency care.
Knowledge of athletic trainer competencies such as prevention and the referral processes associated with athletic injuries or illnesses; first aid and emergency care; rehabilitation and reconditioning; counseling and guidance for sports participants.
Knowledge and skill to assess and gather medical information and health history.
Knowledge of the procedures required for situations that require physician guidance or additional medical interventions.
Sufficient knowledge and ability to build interpersonal relationships and social sensitivity such that the incumbent can relate to the military population in a diverse environment.

Conditions of Employment
The incumbent must meet credentialing requirements IAW OPNAVINST/MCO 6400.2, "Scope, Limitations, Certification, Utilization, and Physician Oversight of Certified Athletic Trainers." which requires the incumbent to possess and maintain certification as an athletic trainer from the National Athletic Trainer's Association's Board of Certification.
