Serves as a U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) Paramedic in the Army Emergency Medical Service (EMS) supporting an Army or joint base military installation.
Paramedics will perform both basic and advanced life support emergency medical treatment to provide the most extensive pre- hospital care.
Responds to the site of accidents or other emergencies involving injury, illness, or potential environmental risks.
Assesses condition of patient(s) and selects from a variety of protocols one or several that are deemed appropriate under the given circumstances and based on the paramedics’ evaluation.
Performs the following procedures Airway Obstructions and Respiratory Arrest, Wounds and Emergency Trauma Treatment, Pediatrics and Childbirth, Extrication and Packaging of Victims, Pharmacology in compliance with standing orders and protocols.
Responsible for implementing procedures for hazardous materials during the course of the duties which include biological, chemical, or radiological agents used by or maintained by the military or by rogue agents against the population.
You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
A pre-placement medical examination is required. Further physical requirements include full use of al limbs, joints, muscles, vision, hearing, etc. An annual physical is also required.
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
This position requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
This position requires Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses; (2) operating a patient transport vehicle; and (3) providing basic life support to patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position.
Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain National Incident Management System training within six months of appointment.
Incumbent must obtain and maintain both a valid state AND a valid government driver's licenses.
Initial hires may be made with a valid state Paramedic certification; however, they must obtain and maintain a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic certification within 52 weeks of the date-of-hire.
Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. In making this determination, the agency may consider your performance and conduct; agency needs and interests; whether your continued employment supports organizational or Government goals; and whether it promotes the efficiency of the Federal service. Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest.
Position may require employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing. Requires use of Personal Protective Equipment such as OSHA Level B-D. Employee is required to wear Respiratory protection in hot and cold environments for extended periods of time.
Position may be designated as Mission Essential.
The employee may be required to work overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out-of-cycle, or unscheduled training or on an emergency basis. The employee may be recalled to duty from scheduled time off.
Work is subject to rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
May be required to assume critical and essential personnel status during inclement weather/emergencies.
Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
