• Complete screening of patients for providers to include recording chief complaint, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, weight, electrocardiograms (EKGs), and other moderately complex tests.
• Administer immunizations as ordered and screened by providers.
• Instruct patients and families on various subjects, such as the proper procedure or following receipt of immunization in accordance with established protocols.
• Assist providers with in-clinic procedures, prepares and positions patient, prepares instruments and supplies, hands supplies to provider and cleans instruments according to instructions for use.
• Receive telephone calls, patients, and visitors to the medical facility to determine the nature of the call or visit. Schedule appointments with the appropriate clinic and health care provider.
• Responds and actions patient messages within EMR.
• Perform general maintenance duties including cleaning and arranging supply carts, sorting supplies, instruments and equipment; handling linen according to infection control policies; and cleaning patient units and exam areas as needed.

• This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
• This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position requires your to have and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 5% of the time.
• This position may require incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and/or varying work schedules.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position requires moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds.

Basic Requirements for Medical Technician (Certified Medical Assistant):

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes direct patient care services such as administering immunizations and medications ordered by the health care providers; collecting patient vital signs data; and utilizing electronic health record systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
