Duties

Help

  • Provide customer service to patrons and performs Manager on Duty tasks.
  • Completes financial paperwork, performs inspection and completes reports.
  • Performs resale operation duties.
  • Cleans and maintains all of the areas in the Fitness facilities not cleaned and maintained by contract cleaners and performs laundry duties.
  • Organizes, manages ,maintains Intramural Programs as well as Athletic fields, equipment, and facilities.

  • Required to work an uncommon tour of duty include evenings, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and overtime as required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate English.
  • The work required some physical exertion such as long periods of standing when overseeing outdoor activities; walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces;
  • (cont.) recurring bending, stooping, stretching and twisting when demonstrating physical fitness techniques and lifting 55 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift weight equipment exceeding 55 pounds
  • The work involves moderate risk or discomforts that require special safety precautions, e.g. working around moving parts and exposure to irritant chemicals.
  • (cont.) Employees may be required to use protective clothing such as masks, boots, goggles, or gloves.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
  • (cont.) Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical, GS-0189 series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: I have one or more years of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-04 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes providing support and assistance to management in fitness centers by administering fitness and sports programs and special events/programs.

OR
EDUCATION:
successfully completed a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. NOTE: You must submit copies of your official transcripts.

OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of and ability to interpret Air Force Instructions, DoD/MAJCOM directives, locals policies and various regulations, practices, and procedures and ability to apply unit fire, safety, and building security regulations.

2. Knowledge of Clerical procedures and ability to accurately complete, review and maintain records and skilled in cash handling procedures.

3. Ability to contend with a range of problems common to a fitness and sports environment and establish effective working relationships with others.

4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

5. Knowledge of the methods involved with fitness and sports programs and principles and techniques of recreations.

6. Knowledge of the assigned equipment within the fitness center, how it functions, and required safety rules and regulations.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
