A Materials Handler (Motor vehicle/Forklift operator) within the Logistics Division. This role manages storage, distribution, and movement for key commodity areas, including medical supplies, quick supply center items, linen services, property book equipment, furniture, medical gases, and medical hazardous waste.

Help

Responsible for movement of stock and maintenance of stock level inventories.
Ensure the safe receipt, storage, and movement of hazardous and toxic materials in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.
Receive and unload a variety of items from many different sources.
Operate equipment such as hand trucks, forklifts, dollies, and 22,000 pound trucks in the pickup and delivery of supply items.
Perform Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) as required.
Prepare inventory and production reports.

The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Government Driver's License.
This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Applicants tentatively selected will participate in drug urinalysis testing, unless currently occupying a TDP within the Department of War.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position may require use of protective clothing and/or uniform (such as steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks).
Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
This position may require working outdoors in severe weather conditions.
Must obtain Hazardous Waste Handling Certification.
Must possess and maintain a current, installation or DoW operator license or certificate for forklift with lifting capacity of (less than 10,000 pounds).

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision.

To meet the screen out element applicants should document experience in the following: Identifying and/or examining hazardous or toxic medical materials; receiving, storing, issuing, shipping and/or inspecting equipment; receiving and/or accounting for all shipments; conducting observations and inspections of materials and substances in accordance with regulations; and unloading a variety of items using material handling equipment such as hand trucks, dollies, forklift and trucks - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Often stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time; bends, stoops, and works in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items that weigh up to eight kilograms (70 pounds). Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment with assistance from other workers.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. When working in hazardous materials areas, may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
