Duties

Help
  • Receive deliveries from the Government Publishing Office, Superintendent of Documents and private contractors.
  • Make internal Congressional pickup/deliveries between House and Senate offices as they relate to the Government Publishing Office's mission.
  • Verify incoming deliveries against receipt and determine if the right material and correct quantities are delivered.
  • Receives and breaks down deliveries received according to their destinations.
  • Maintains necessary work records and generates reports as required utilizing automated receiving and tracking system.

  • Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office setting at times with frequent travel to the loading dock to retrieve work from GPO MVO drivers who deliver the packages.
  • Working Conditions: Incumbent will be required to wear a GPO supplied uniform and safety shoes; and will be exposed to loud noises, temperature changes, varying lighting conditions and awkward heavy loads.
  • This is an essential personnel position.
  • The selectee may be required to work overtime, weekend, and/or holiday shifts as needed.

To qualify for the Printing Plant Worker (Receiving & Distribution), you must meet the following requirements:

If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The screen-out element for this position is:

Ability to do the work of a Printing Plant Worker (Receiving & Distribution) without more than normal supervision.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of this position. These duties include: 1)Distributing materials to secure government buildings or receiving platforms; 2) assisting in the receiving and distribution of items while managing inventory; and, 3) utilizing automated system to track incoming deliveries and automate logging of receipt.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.

Substitution of education in lieu of SCREEN OUT may not not be used for this grade level.

The GPO offers Transit subsidy for commuters using public transportation (Metro Bus/Rail, MARC, VRE, etc.).

For a Suitability:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.
