Help

The Supervisory Workplace Adjustment Program Specialist directs the work of subordinate employees at the organizational unit level.  Work usually includes routine project/program tasks based on established policies, procedures, and guidelines.  Managerial duties affect employees in one organizational unit and include setting priorities; assigning tasks; monitoring and evaluating performance; coaching and developing employee capabilities; approving leave; and taking or recommending corrective/disciplinary action, as appropriate.

Uses assigned budget, staff, and other resources to accomplish project/program objectives. Manages budget and requests additional resources, as needed. Contributes to budget planning process and projects short-term future needs.

Supervisory duties and responsibilities include:

Manages and oversees employment matters affecting people with health-related and/or medical issues and serve as an advisor to ABI-1/2 on workplace adjustments and disability issues.  Serves as the Point-of-Contact and the Decision Maker for the AVS organization on all workplace adjustment matters; Works with and provide supports to AVS employees and management officials.

Investigates employment matters affecting people with health-related and/or medical issues and serve as an advisor to ABI and AVS leadership on workplace adjustments and health-related or disability issues. Collects, prepares, and reports data (used for barrier and trend analysis) on accommodations to identify and eliminate barriers as required by federal, state and local law.

Provides advise and general guidance on workplace adjustments, delivering disability accommodation-related training, coordinating requests for reasonable work arrangements, requesting and reviewing medical documentation, advising managers and providing coordination about the approval or denial of employees' requests for workplace adjustments.

Engages in an interactive process with supervisors, managers, applicants, and employees on determinations of workplace adjustment requests, whether these requests are received from agency officials, including managers or from employees.  Responds to questions and addresses concerns from the requester regarding the process, rules, and regulations governing workplace adjustments. 

Determines the need for medical documentation; reviews submitted medical documentation; and advises decision-makers regarding approval of requests based on medical documentation.  Provides guidance to managers and supervisors on statutory and regulatory requirements of workplace adjustments and related issues. 

Maintains confidentiality of all medical documentation submitted or obtained for the purpose of determining whether an accommodation should be granted.  Provides guidance to employees with disabilities and their supervisors to assist with identifying internal and external resources available to help facilitate the selection of an effective accommodation.

Provides advice, guidance, and recommendations on determining effective workplace arrangements; whether additional information is needed from requester, and whether a particular medical issue is covered; whether the requester is a qualified individual with a disability requiring an adjustment; and whether a request for presents an undue hardship to the agency.

Applies a comprehensive knowledge of the work directed, a detailed knowledge of budget, human resource, and other administrative policies and procedures, and a detailed understanding of the objectives of the organizational unit.

Contacts are primarily within the organizational unit/major subdivision with subordinates, peers, and higher-level managers to discuss the status of projects/programs and to share information. In some areas, may also have frequent contact with customers to explain policies, procedures or for other project/program purposes.

To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-J, FG/GS-14 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience includes: Experience managing or leading projects/programs or teams to achieve objectives related to employment/workforce management people services activities. Experience interpreting and/or reviewing employment policy, case management, and/or workplace adjustments/guidance.

Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this vacancy announcement.
