Duties

Help
  • Serve as the Special Security Officer (SSO) managing the operation of the Special Security Office for the 4/160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) {SOAR} (A).
  • Develop procedures for and conducts limited surveys of industrial or other private facilities where such facilities are to engage in organization projects.
  • Acquaint the facility personnel with security matters and procedures, and alerts them to the dangers of compromising classified material.
  • Control access to the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) by maintaining Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access rosters.
  • Serve as the focal point for SCI by ensuring that all SCI is properly accounted for, controlled, transmitted, transported, packaged, safeguarded, and destroyed.
  • Review automation security hardware and/or software baseline and configuration, and recommends appropriate actions to Configuration Control Board.
  • Recommend changes in security measures to reduce or eliminate areas of vulnerability.
  • Advise supervisor of recommended policy and/or procedural changes.
  • Conduct a continuing SCI security education training and awareness program to ensure that all SCI indoctrinated individuals are kept apprised of the requirements and guidelines for protecting SCI.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must be willing to undergo and successfully complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination with No Deception Indicated (NDI) on a pre-appointment and periodic basis.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET clearance based on either SBI or an SSBI with eligibility for SCI access.
  • Temporary duty (TDY) travel is required 25% or less of the time.
  • Must be eligible to receive a DoD passport.
  • Must possess valid driver's license in order to operate a GSA 3/4 ton vehicle for the purpose of shipping and receiving SCI via the Defense Courier Service (DCS).

Army DCIPS positions apply Veteran's Preference to preference eligible candidates as defined by Section 2108 of Title 5 U.S.C., in accordance with the procedures provided in DoD Instruction 1400.25, Volume 2005, DCIPS Employment and Placement.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience: Assisting higher graded security specialist(s) in administering a multi-discipline security program which included one or more of the following security disciplines: information security, personnel security, industrial security, sensitive compartmented information security.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as:
1. Applying security policies and procedures in two of more of the following security disciplines: personnel, information, physical and/or industrial security to meet mission requirements; and
2. Assisting with the management of Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) functions.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-09).

OR

A Ph.D or equivalent Degree that is closely related to the position. Closely Related constitutes a degree which has educated the student in pertinent, specific position-related subject matter allowing the student to develop knowledge and abilities directly applicable to the position being filled such as National Security Studies, Political Science, International Relations/Foreign Affairs, Geography, Security Management/Administrations, Criminal Justice, Psychology, History, or Law. (NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with application).

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.

*Note: This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program. This is the Department of Defense (DoD) Security Certification Program directed by DoD Instruction 3305.13. It is approved by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs for use in the Army via the following memorandum: Memorandum, Assistant Secretary of Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, dated 8 September 2015, subject: Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program. The SPeD certification is DoD's initiative to professionalize the security workforce by establishing a common set of competencies for security practitioners that promotes interoperability, facilitates professional development and training, and develops a workforce of certified security professionals. This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
