This position is in the Washington Headquarters Services, Facilities Services Directorate, Defense Mail Service. It provides mail and correspondence assistance to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of War, the Executive Secretary, and senior staff. The role directly supports the Mail Management Program for the Office of the Secretary of War, the Joint/Department of War, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and approximately 150 other organizations, including federal, public, and private entities.

Help

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Collects, produces, and analyzes data processed during daily operations to recommend performance enhancements and propose solutions for service deficiencies.
  • Prepares written guidance for data management staff, processes documents and reports according to established procedures, and enters information into an automated database.

  • Assists in developing recommendations for system upgrades, identifies and implements process improvements, and tracks the progress of system activities and evaluations.

  • Prepares and monitors reports and guidelines, performs qualitative and quantitative research, and analyzes data trends to recommend changes in program policy or procedure.

  • Compiles, assembles, and classifies statistics from source materials, verifies the authenticity of the data, and provides analysis and solutions to meet operational needs.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

You may qualify at the GS-06 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal Service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) which has given me the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties related to the position being filled. Specialized experience is defined as:1) reviewing documents for completeness and accuracy; and maintaining records in accordance with established procedures; 2) receiving, processing, and distributing mail or correspondence in an office environment; and 3) Assisting team members by gathering and compiling data for reports or analysis.

You may qualify at the GS-07 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal Service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) which has given me the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties related to the position being filled. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) collecting and reviewing data for accuracy and completeness; entering information into databases; and compiling statistics or information for reports.; 2) tracking documents, preparing items for dispatch, and using automated systems to manage and monitor the flow of information; and 3) assisting with the review of organizational activities or program operations by gathering relevant information, identifying routine problems or discrepancies, and compiling findings for higher-level review.
