This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, Great Plains Region, Yellowtail Dam, Fort Smith Village, Montana.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

  • This position is designated as a "Work/Crew Lead" position and provides leadership and provision of technical knowledge, with responsibility for the productivity of a small crew.
  • Leads a variety of maintenance duties and crafts for industrial facilities and equipment associated with dams, hydroelectric power plants, and related facilities.
  • Performs day-to-day skilled journeyman industrial facility and equipment maintenance work in the craft(s) for which the incumbent is qualified.
  • Provides short-term planning and coordination of work and resources; relays instructions from the supervisor to the workers; advises on proper work methods; ensures that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available; obtains needed instructions or decisions from the supervisor on work problems; understands and explains standard operating procedures, deadlines, directives, etc. to workers; checks work in progress, as well as upon completion; ensures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed; and reports status and progress of work to supervisor.

Physical Demands: Exerts moderately heavy physical effort which includes lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 100 pounds. Climbing ladders and stairs, walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, or bending for long periods of time may be required in performing maintenance duties.

Maintenance duties may also involve working from scaffolding and motorized man-lifts at substantial heights and working in close restricted quarters and confined spaces.

Working Conditions: The work is accomplished in and around dams, power plants, and related facilities with exposure to high levels of noise, moving parts, hazardous materials, and electrical hazards. Work is also performed outside under prevailing weather and terrain conditions. Some work assignments are performed in confined spaces, close and restricted quarters, and at substantial heights.

Will be properly trained and required to operate equipment and other vehicles in the performance of his/her duties and is completely responsible for their safe operation. Operates such equipment in compliance with applicable Bureau, Federal, State, County and Municipals laws and regulations. Responsible for maintaining a valid State Driver's License and notifying supervisor of expiration dates or revocation of licenses or certifications or changes in physical conditions that would affect operational competency. Responsible for reporting all accidents in accordance with regulations.

The typical work schedule for this position is four days per week, ten hours per day, Monday through Thursday.
