The incumbent's primary duty is serving as Program Manager of the Durham VA Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship program which is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). This position is expected to function in an independent manner, to take full responsibility for the assigned functions, and to be held accountable for the obtained results. The incumbent will also engage in clinical duties.

Duties include but no limited to:
The incumbent has oversight of all administrative and programmatic resources of the Psychology Fellowship Program which is highly specialized and complex, offering specialized training in the areas of Trauma Recovery, Primary Care-Mental Health Integration/Behavioral Medicine, Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery , Women's Health and Geropsychology.

  • Coordinates the recruitment process of postdoctoral fellows by attending national conferences to recruit potential fellows.
  • Manages the national recruitment and selection process of fellows in accordance with Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) guidelines by organizing the review of applicant files, organizes the interview days, oversees the decision making process to rank applicants, and APA mandated selection notification procedures.
  • Coordinates the assignment of trainees to appropriate supervising psychologists in the various patient care clinics where rotations are located.
  • Organizes the structure of year-long Postdoctoral Fellowship didactic seminar series, recruit and assign supervisors to didactic committees, and complete APA-required documentation of Fellowship didactics.
  • Serves as a professional development mentor to fellows and meets with them monthly to solicit feedback and discuss any issues/concerns.
  • Manage database of training forms (i.e., self-assessments, graduated levels of responsibility, training goals, training plans) and evaluation forms for the fellowship program (i.e., fellow, supervisor, rotation, program, didactic evaluations, research presentation evaluations).
  • Completes paperwork required to maintain national APA Accreditation.
  • Chairs monthly meetings of the Psychology Fellowship Training Committee.
  • Independently provides psychological services at all levels of complexity and consults with peers or supervisors as appropriate.
  • Conducts diagnostic evaluations by clinical interview and objective testing.
  • Plans and carries out individual and/or group psychotherapy with challenging cases.
  • Performs all other duties assigned.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency. Psychologists must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.
  • Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed. The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
  • Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed and that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
  • Professional Psychology Licensure: A psychologist must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the US, or the District of Columbia
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).

Grade Determinations: At least three years of experience as a professional psychologist, with at least one year equivalent to the GS-13 grade level

Preferred Experience: Prior experience in psychology training

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-14. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-14.
