Duties

Help

The candidate selected for this position will:

  • Provide authoritative analysis, technical insight, advice and recommendations on complex, sensitive actuarial matters with national impact, proposed regulations and laws, and rulings and decisions that impact PBGC.
  • Identify emerging issues that require study and evaluation with a focus on multiemployer pension plans and their operation, prepares position papers on these matters, and presents findings to the Department Director and other senior PBGC/PRAD staff.
  • Conduct special studies concerning the effects of proposed or new regulations and legislation. Provides specific direction and guidance on the development of valuation systems and models for use by PBGC.
  • Conduct briefing sessions and meetings with regard to areas such as PBGC initiatives, proposed policy changes, rulings, and complex technical issues. Represents the PBGC Director or PRAD Director at conferences, meetings, etc., on critical technical issues.

Qualifications

All qualification and eligibility requirements must be met by the announcement closing date.

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the private sector applying the principles and practices of actuarial science to multi-employer defined benefit plans.

Examples include: experience evaluating and analyzing the effects of changes in the pension environment on specific multiemployer plans, determination of withdrawal liabilities, and experience advising on, presenting recommendations on, and providing summaries of pension issues and policy matters to pension plan sponsors.

Note: An Enrolled Actuary (EA), an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) credential is preferred but not required.

Education

In order to qualify for this position, you must possess the following education:

A bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
