Duties

Help

The duties and responsibilities for a Government Information Assistant, GS-0303-7 generally include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Examining, preparing, and processing voluminous FOIA-related legal records to support timely and accurate responses.
  • Maintaining FOIA request records, correspondence, and case information in the electronic tracking system.
  • Obtaining requested court or agency records from custodial offices and reviews Records of Proceeding for accuracy.
  • Converting paper records and audio materials into digital formats using scanning and duplication equipment.
  • Performing quality control of digitized records to ensure files are legible, searchable, complete, and consistent with applicable records standards.
  • Coordinating with internal offices and external agencies to provide request status information and support completion of FOIA processing milestones.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the Government Information Assistant position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

FOR THE GS-07 LEVEL:

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks, full-time) of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service (or comparable experience outside the Federal service), performing 3 or more of the following duties:

  1. Processing records requests by reviewing and assembling case or legal documents under established procedures to support timely responses;
  2. Maintaining request data and case status information in an electronic tracking system to ensure accurate records;
  3. Converting paper or audio case records into electronic formats using scanning or duplication equipment to produce clear, usable files; and
  4. Performing quality control of digitized records to verify legibility, searchability, completeness, and compliance with established records standards.

Conditions of Employment: Only U.S. Citizens or Nationals are eligible for employment with the Executive Office for Immigration Review. Dual citizens of the U.S. and another country will be considered on a case-by-case basis. All DOJ applicants, both U.S. citizens and non-citizens, whose job location is with the U.S., must meet the residency requirement. For a total of three (not necessarily consecutive years) of the five years immediately prior to applying for a position, the applicant must have: 1) resided in the U.S., 2) worked for the U.S. overseas in a Federal or military capacity; or 3) been a dependent of a Federal or military employee serving oversees.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Applicants applying under Delegated Examining (all U.S. citizens) procedures will be evaluated under DOJ's Category Rating and Selection Procedures. The Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) seeks highly-qualified individuals to join our team of expert professionals in becoming a part of our challenging and rewarding Agency. The primary mission of the EOIR is to adjudicate immigration cases by fairly, expeditiously, and uniformly interpreting and administering the Nation's immigration laws. Under delegated authority from the Attorney General, EOIR conducts immigration court proceedings, appellate reviews, and administrative hearings. EOIR consists of three adjudicatory components: The Office of the Chief Immigration Judge, which is responsible for managing the Immigration Courts where Immigration Judges adjudicate individual cases; the Board of Immigration Appeals, which primarily conducts appellate reviews of these Immigration Judge decisions; and the Office of the Chief Administrative Hearing Officer, which adjudicates immigration-related employment cases.
