Duties

Help
  • Drive a 4-ton or larger truck to transport linen and supplies to and from Post Laundry, Dental Clinics, Troop Medical Clinics and make other trips on post as required.
  • Loads and unloads supplies and linen from truck.
  • Performs drivers’ maintenance in accordance with established rules and regulations.
  • Sorts clean linen returned from laundry, stores in appropriate storage location.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common duties such as delivering linen to wards and stamps linen for identification purposes; moving linen supplies from one storage location to another in order to maintain prescribed stock levels. Assure cargo is properly loaded and secured and that maximum load capacity is not exceeded. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Exerts strenuous physical effort in the loading, unloading, and arranging materials. Frequently handles items weighing up to 70 pounds and pushes carts weighing over 400 pounds.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside on loading docks and, is occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles. Subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading vehicles. There is some danger of exposure to infection when handling contaminated linen. Protective gowns, masks and gloves are provided when handling laundry from patients with contagious diseases
