Lead work crews by assigning tasks, communicating supervisor instructions, and setting the pace of work.
Coordinate work activities and ensure personnel have the necessary plans, materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
Inspect work in progress and completed work to ensure compliance with established procedures, methods, quality standards, and deadlines.
Provide technical guidance, answers questions, demonstrates proper work methods, and identifies problems requiring supervisor assistance.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild a variety of floating and land-based heavy equipment and mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and power systems.
Determine equipment serviceability and repair requirements, including whether major assemblies require removal for specialized repair, and perform final adjustments, testing, and corrective repairs.
Use a variety of diagnostic equipment, precision measuring tools, power tools, and hand tools to identify equipment failures, perform repairs, and verify proper operation.
Ensure compliance with safety, housekeeping, and hazardous material/waste requirements, including proper handling, labeling, storage, disposal, spill response, and use of required protective equipment.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Subject to assignment where needed during emergencies.
Pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience and/or show the ability to perform repair work on wheeled and track-laying heavy and special engineer equipment such as cranes, power shovels, bulldozers, road graders, rollers, heavy duty compressors, large generators, tractors, trucks, lifts, pumps, etc.; fabrication and machining of parts; and/or body work such as welding, soldering, and straightening. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision
Physical Effort: Incumbent is required to stand, stoop and work in cramped positions, on top of and beneath equipment and on floating plant. Frequently lifts 15-25 pounds and occasionally lifts in excess of 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in a shop that is moderately heated, lighted, and ventilated. This occurs during the non-revetment season, usually from November through June of each year. During the revetment season (July through October) the work is performed at various shop areas along the banks of the Lower Mississippi River. The floors are concrete which is fatigue producing from long periods of standing and stooping. Incumbent is exposed to disagreeable fumes from exhaust of engines, minor cuts and bruises from working in close places and hazards of moving equipment in and around the shop area. The work is of a heavy, dirty nature and is performed in areas where the noise is disagreeable making it extremely difficult to talk and be able to hear and understand instructions, etc.

Schedule: During the Revetment season, typically June through December, all Revetment employees, including this position, travel in various locations along the Mississippi River. The employees work 12 workdays on & have 2 days off. Employees will be on TDY & will lodge in hotels within the vicinity of the work area. During the work season this position works typically a 10-hour shift. During the non-Revetment season, the crew works at Ensley Engineer Yard, Memphis, TN, on either a 5-day/8-hour or 4-day/10-hr.
