SUMMARY OF DUTIES


This position is part of the Marketing Branch of Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), Camp S.D. Butler, Okinawa, Japan, and reports directly to the Digital Marketing Manager. The primary purpose of this role is to develop, manage, and optimize MCCS Okinawa¿s social media presence and digital communication channels in support of marketing initiatives across the installation.
As the Social Media Specialist, the incumbent is responsible for developing and executing a cohesive social media strategy that aligns with MCCS¿ mission and brand identity.  Duties include creating engaging content for Facebook, Instagram, and emerging platforms, producing graphics, short-form videos, stories, and reels as part of a structured content creation workflow. A key part of the role involves maintaining an organized posting schedule and managing the overall content calendar to ensure timely and consistent communication.
The incumbent monitor online interactions, responds to comments and messages, and fosters positive community engagement across all platforms. Regular analysis of performance metrics is essential. The incumbent track trends, prepares weekly and monthly analytics reports, and utilizes data to refine future content and campaigns. Collaboration with program managers, graphic designers, and the Digital Marketing Manager to support marketing campaigns and ensure brand consistency is central to this role.
Photography and videography at MCCS events is part of the storytelling responsibilities, along with staying informed about platform updates, new features, and evolving social media trends. The incumbent also assists with email newsletter content as part of integrated digital communication efforts.
In addition to these core duties, the incumbent will provide World Class customer service, communicating courteously and professionally with both internal and external customers; and follow all safety regulations, report hazards promptly, and uphold Equal Employment Opportunity principles while maintaining a workplace free from harassment. Other related duties may be assigned as needed.

BASIC REQUIREMENT


Minimum of two years of experience managing enterprise-level social media and digital communications. Applicants should demonstrate strong experience with Facebook and Instagram account management, possess basic design skills using Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud, understand social media analytics tools, and be comfortable preparing reports using Microsoft Office. The ability to adapt, learn new tools, work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, along with strong English communication skills, is essential
