  • Plan, direct, and administer the overall Operation, Maintenance, Park Management and Resource Management program at a multi-purpose project.
  • Supervise implementation and coordination of approved mitigation plans and other authorized land management plans, operational controls, and procedures governing conservation and use of project resources
  • Enforce Title 36 CFR, Part 327, (Rules and Regulations Governing Public Use of Water Resources Development Projects Administered by the Chief of Engineers).
  • Develop, maintain, close and consolidate Corps recreation areas and facilities.
  • Serve as the official representative and spokesman for the Corps of Engineers in contacts with regional directors of federal and state agencies, mayors, county commissioners, federal and county judges, local tourism councils etc.
  • Responsible for the preparation, justification and support of budgets, obligations and expenditure schedules and spreadsheets.
  • Plan, coordinate, evaluate and direct the operation, maintenance, modification and control of project facilities including flood control structures, outlet works and appurtenances.
  • Perform supervisory management duties.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid motor vehicle license. The incumbent must obtain and maintain a USACE motorboat license (less than 26') within 12 months.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • The incumbent must wear the prescribed uniform.
  • The incumbent may be assigned to work a typical schedule and/or weekends and holidays.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education AND requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Supervisory Natural Resources Specialist:

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: experience overseeing the Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of a dam/lake project to include administration of a Park Management, Natural Resource Management, or Public Lands Management program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the specialized experience qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
