The mission of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service is to support and protect the U.S. Postal Service and its employees, infrastructure, and customers; enforce the laws that defend the nation's mail system from illegal or dangerous use; and ensure public trust in the mail. We are America's oldest federal law enforcement agency. For more than 200 years, U.S. Postal Inspectors have protected the U.S. Postal Service, secured the nation's mail system, and ensured public trust in the mail.

U.S. Postal Inspectors are federal law enforcement officers with jurisdiction in all criminal matters involving the security and integrity of the U.S. Postal Service and violations of postal-related laws. Postal Inspectors carry firearms, make arrests, execute federal search warrants, and serve subpoenas. Inspectors work with U.S. Attorneys, other law enforcement, and local prosecutors to investigate cases and prepare them for court.

Conditions of employment

• At least 21 years of age at the time of application and less than 37 years of age at the time of original law enforcement appointment (age exception may be granted for preference eligible veterans).
• Currently hold a four-year degree from an accredited college or university. Preference eligible veterans can meet this education requirement with equivalent experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Have no felony or domestic violence convictions.
• Are in good physical condition.
• Write and speak English clearly.
• Have a valid driver's license with at least two years of unsupervised driving experience and a safe driving record.
• Are willing to relocate.

The Postal Inspection Service is firmly committed to a drug-free workplace. The unlawful use or possession of drugs, at any time, by Inspection Service employees is not tolerated, and may serve as the basis for removal from the Postal Inspection Service. Hearing Requirements: Hearing acuity in the better ear is NOT to exceed an average loss of 30db at 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz. The loss canNOT exceed 40db in each ear, separately, at either 500 Hz or 1000 Hz or 2000 Hz. Hearing aids MAY be acceptable for meeting the USPIS hearing standard.

Vision Requirements: Having vision in ONLY one eye is disqualifying. The ability to see using both eyes at the same time is required. Visual acuity using both eyes together, at the same time, must test 20/70 (using Snellen eye chart) WITHOUT corrective lenses. Uncorrected vision must test at least 20/100 in each eye, separately. Vision in EACH eye, separately, must be corrected to 20/20. Eye surgery MAY be acceptable for meeting the USPIS vision standard. Soft contact lenses less than 6 months - must meet uncorrected standards (20/100 in each eye). Soft contact lenses greater than 6 months - must meet same criteria as corrective binocular vision (20/20).

Qualifications

1. Knowledge of Inspection Service policies, procedures, and programs at a level sufficient to provide procedural and technical guidance, and policy interpretation, in an assigned program area.
2. Knowledge of budget preparation and monitoring techniques.
3. Ability to collect and analyze data (including trends) and make recommendations for program improvement.
4. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, sufficient to prepare technical and non-technical reports, and presentations for various audiences.
5. Ability to plan, oversee, coordinate and assign work to others, in order to meet objectives, including developing, organizing and monitoring workload, establishing effective work relationships, facilitating the flow of work-related information, monitoring progress, and providing feedback and technical guidance.
6. Demonstrated experience in performing inspections, enforcement or compliance work related to Inspection Service activities.
7. Ability to oversee and coordinate the investigation and disposition of criminal, civil and administrative cases.
8. Demonstrated experience in conducting investigations and developing facts leading to the disposition of criminal, civil and administrative cases.
9. Ability to develop materials, prepare and conduct training or information sharing sessions related to Inspection Service policy and procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Selected applicant will be required to undergo periodic medical assessment to determine physical, mental, and emotional ability to effectively perform law enforcement functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS: Applicant must have a valid state driver's license, two years of unsupervised driving experience, and maintain a safe driving record.

Desirable qualifications:

• Executive protection experience as an 1811 for at least five years.
• Ability to travel and work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
