Multiple - Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 4 years by a current permanent Army employee. Extensions may be possible in accordance with guidance on the job announcement.
Supervises the operations of the range based on technical knowledge of range operations, live fire training, maintenance of Remote Enhanced Target System (RETS) (including Direct Support/General Support level maintenance), and range equipment.
Plans, directs and supervises mission essential functions in connection with operations carried out by subordinate personnel.
Plans weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates.
Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish various tasks, and redirects workers and resources as required.
Supervise and assist workers on performing organization, direct and general support level maintenance on targets, target devices and simulators.
Takes action to establish tasks (jobs), determines special qualification requirements and shift responsibilities, assures workforce is properly oriented, trained, disciplined and counseled.
Operates various motor vehicles with gross weight of up to greater than 22,000 pounds (i.e., crane, pickup truck, stake truck, dump truck) to facilitate work.
Operates a tractor with front-end loader or mower attachment, and other range equipment.
Maintains surrounding range areas adjacent to target devices, e.g., repairing berms, cutting grass, railroad track and bed, and repair of wooden targets.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
Incumbent will be required to perform duties as a Driver Licensed Examiner/Licensed Instructor (LE/LI) within 6 months of employment.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
Position may be required to work an irregular tour of duty to cover various shifts and is subject to be on-call for 24-hour range operations.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

I have the Ability to Lead or Supervise common Target Systems Repairer-Operator duties, such as performing electronic, electrical, hydraulic or mechanical tests and maintenance functions in order to maintain the functionality and serviceability of mechanical and/ or electrical devices. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Physical Effort: Makes repairs and installation from ladders and in trenches, and where parts of the systems worked
on are in hard-to-reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs and works in tiring and
uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up tools, equipment and parts that weigh up
to 45 pounds, and occasionally items that weigh up to 100 pounds with required assistance. Work
requires climbing up and down a steep flight of stairs to reach the 40-foot control tower to perform
maintenance.
Working Conditions: Works primarily outside, in dirt, dust and mud. Sometimes required to make repairs and installations
outside in windy or cold weather, is exposed to possibility of electrical shock and burns. Required to
wear and or use protective clothing and equipment in accordance with established health and safety
regulations and Standard Operating Procedures. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges,
pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives. May be exposed to sulfuric acid when handling
batteries used in operating remotely controlled target devices. Exposed to the possibility of abrasions,
cuts, burns, electrical shock, falls from a 40-foot tower and explosions. Hearing protective devices,
hard hats with face shield, and other safety equipment and devices are issued or available for use.
Gun fire simulator requires charging compressed gasses (oxygen) and flammable gasses (propane).
