This Information Receptionist (OA) provides front desk, clerical, and office automation support to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The position assists visitors and callers, prepares and maintains documents and records, processes incoming correspondence, and performs other administrative duties that support daily office operations.

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Information Receptionist (OA) support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia, Administrative Division, Support Services Section, located in Washington, District of Columbia, focusing in the areas of Reception and Customer Service, Office Automation and Document, and Records and Administrative Support
.

Typical work assignments will include:

  • Receiving and screening visitors, verifying identification, issuing visitor badges, and directing visitors to the appropriate office or waiting area.
  • Answering telephone calls and providing general information or directing callers and visitors to the appropriate office, agency, or staff member.
  • Preparing, editing, formating, and proofreading correspondence, reports, graphics, tables, and other documents using office automation software, and ensuring proper spelling and grammar.
  • Receiving, reviewing, recording, and distributing incoming mail, electronic correspondence, and other materials to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintaining administrative records and files, processing closed case files, and assisting with witness vouchers, logs, and other office support activities.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying:

To qualify at the GS-05 level, you must possess:

Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing (3) of the (4) duties listed below:

  • Assisting visitors and callers by answering routine questions and directing them to the appropriate person or office.
  • Using office software to prepare, edit, format, proofread, store, and retrieve documents.
  • Receiving, reviewing, routing, and maintaining mail, records, files, or other administrative materials.
  • Maintaining accurate logs, records, or tracking information and performing routine clerical support duties.

OR

Education: To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have four years above high school level to substitute education for experience. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (Must submit transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Specialized Experience: You must have a combination of the specialized experience and education as described above that totals 100% when combined. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. (Must submit transcripts).

Typing Proficiency: To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
