Duties

Help

As an IT Specialist (Principal IT Solutions Architect) at the GS- 2210-15, some of your typical work assignments may include:


Provide strategic architecture advice to top agency officials on integrating IT programs and functions of equivalent scope and complexity.

Define and maintain enterprise reference architectures, ADRs, reusable design patterns, and technology-selection frameworks across infrastructure, platforms, and services.

Build technical roadmaps, business cases, cost-benefit and total-cost-of-ownership models, and performance-measurement frameworks to shape enterprise IT investment decisions.

Lead cross-agency design assignments and collaborations that integrate SBA platforms with partner agencies and government-wide initiatives.

Research emerging technologies, threats (including adversarial AI and legacy cloud vulnerabilities), and architecture practices and assess their implications for agency.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must show that you have the required IT-related experience for the grade level to which your are applying:

AND
GS-15: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: 1. providing strategic architecture advice to senior officials on integrating complex IT programs and functions using modern cloud and engineering practices (e.g., AWS, Azure, containers/microservices, Apache Kafka, APIs/SOA, data platforms, predictive analytics, DevSecOps, Agile, and Model-Based Systems Engineering); AND 2. defining and maintaining enterprise reference architectures, architectural decision records (ADRs), reusable design patterns, and technology-selection frameworks, and applying architecture frameworks (such as the Federal Enterprise Architecture and AWS/Azure Well-Architected and Cloud Adoption Frameworks) to set design standards for enterprise solutions.

Competency-Based Qualification Standard for the Information Technology Management Series, 2210

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Generally, time in Non-Pay status as a federal employee is not creditable towards the specialized experience requirement listed above.
