This position is responsible for the front desk operations which include the sale of passes and permits, oversight and collection of monies from visitors.

Help
  • Supervises 20% or less of assigned duties.
  • Duties described are at the target grade, GS-06.
  • Responsible for inventory and control of various merchandise that is located in the visitor center.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves any problems associated with the visitor centers, personnel, equipment, or sales.
  • Coordinates and directs the daily operations for information centers including the handling of daily receipts, sales, and personnel.
  • Ensures the visitor centers are maintained in accordance with established standards.
  • Manages multiple visitor information centers and plans, organizes and completes recreation information to be responsive to the public needs for all sites.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-6 level: Applicants musthave one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more the following:

  • Ensure that the information desk at a reception area or visitor center is covered at all times;
  • Provide guidance to the public on rules and regulations regarding on-unit activities and attempts to gain public cooperation in protecting resources from damage and pollution;
  • Perform regular daily activities for the reception area or visitor center, including but not limited to, answering phones, greeting visitors, daily opening and closing of the facility, and raising/lowering the flag; arrange informational interpretive displays in the reception area or visitor center.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

You will be evaluated in accordance with the category rating procedure as defined in the USDA Demonstration Project Plan. Applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position will be placed in the Eligible category. You will be further evaluated against criteria for placement in the Quality category. This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Assessment Questionnaire. Individuals with veterans' preference are listed ahead of applicants who do not have veterans' preference within each category.

Accomplishment Record Review: If you are found minimally qualified, a rating panel will review your resume and Accomplishment Record narratives.
