At the full performance level (GS-11) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as an Environmental Compliance specialist for the National Park Service (NPS).
  • Enter projects into the NPS Planning, Environment & Public Comment (PEPC) System.
  • Review projects for National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Endangered Species Act (ESP), National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Commercial (or Special) Use Authorization (CUA or SUP), Concessions, and other compliance requirements.
  • Draft compliance documents and reports including Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), Categorical Exclusions, etc.

This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. Qualifications:

To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

To qualify for the GS-09 applicant must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include duties such as assisting with drafting environmental compliance documents or portions thereof, including but not limited to; categorical exclusions, environmental assessments, and environmental impact statements; supporting members of an interdisciplinary team evaluating potential environmental impacts of proposed projects; and shadowing site inspections for compliance with requirements of environmental compliance documents.

Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree

A combination of graduate level education beyond the first year of progressive graduate study and appropriate experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

To qualify for the GS-11 applicant must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include duties such as drafting environmental compliance documents or portions thereof, including categorical exclusions, environmental assessments, and environmental impact statements; participating as a member of an interdisciplinary team evaluating potential environmental impacts of proposed projects; and conducting site inspections for compliance with requirements of environmental compliance documents.

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree

A combination of graduate level education beyond the first two years of progressive graduate study and appropriate experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: Work is primarily sedentary in an office environment but may also require some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.

Work Environment: The majority of the work is performed in an office setting with some travel to attend meetings, conferences and workshops, or for field inspections. The work can involve moderate risks, discomforts, and unpleasantness such as exposure to dust, hot and dry weather extremes; and flights in small aircraft, including helicopters.

In addition to the application and application questionnaire, this position requires successful completion of the USA Hire Assessment, if required. National Park Service

You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1-2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

Pay will vary based on grade level and/or duty location for which you're selected. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.
