Duties

Help
  • Serve as a Switched Systems technician to prevent communication failure at Raven Rock Mountain Complex (RRMC).
  • Perform maintenance on all switching systems, subsystems, and peripheral devices to prevent communication failures during military operations.
  • Diagnose service faults associated with various types of transmission media to prevent network isolation.
  • Deliver installation requirements to designated work centers to provide hands-on technical assistance throughout the execution process.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain TOP SECRET eligibility with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • The IT classification for this position is IT II. Position is designated as Special Sensitive.
  • Must successfully pass urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter according to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
  • This position requires the employee to occasionally travel away from the normal duty station up to 5%.
  • Position requires a pre-employment physical due to lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • In accordance with DoDM 8140.03 and supplemental Army guidance, the employee must obtain and maintain the following requirements for each Cyber work role. (See Additional Information Section for additional conditions of employment.)

In order to qualify, you must meet the one year experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe one year specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by

1. Repairing digital, analog, or Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone systems to restore communication between agencies;
2. Troubleshooting digital switching platforms to ensure voice and data packets route correctly between users;
3. Performing maintenance on telecommunication subsystems to minimize service interruptions for subscribers;
4. Constructing wiring main distributing frames to meet government specifications.

OR

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

While serving a probationary period the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position is a Mission Essential and in the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Incumbent is required to provide a reliable method of contact/communication (e.g., telephone/pager) and respond within 1 hour of notification receipt.
  • This is a Key Essential position that cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization and is subject to a 2-hour alert and recall and periodic work schedule changes. Because of the essential nature of this position, the incumbent cannot be a Ready Reservist or a Military Retiree with recall obligations.
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
  • Student Loan Repayment, Advanced In-Hire, Relocation Incentive, Recruitment Incentive, and Advanced Leave Accrual are not authorized.
