This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Painters, Masonry, and Insulators Section. As a Painter, you will use brushes, rollers, and/or spray equipment to paint various structures, manufacturing equipment, and finishes to wooden furniture, wall systems, cabinets, ornate trim, doors, and floors to provide a decorative as well as protective coating.
Summary
This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Painters, Masonry, and Insulators Section. As a Painter, you will use brushes, rollers, and/or spray equipment to paint various structures, manufacturing equipment, and finishes to wooden furniture, wall systems, cabinets, ornate trim, doors, and floors to provide a decorative as well as protective coating.
All Candidates who are: Current or former federal employees qualifying as Status Candidates, Federal employees currently serving on a VRA, VEOA eligibles, CTAP/ICTAP eligibles, eligible for special hiring authorities (e.g., the Schedule A appointment for persons with disabilities, or covered by an Interchange Agreement), VRA eligibles OR Land Management employees eligible under Public Law 114-47.
Prepare surfaces and apply various coatings such as primers, paints, epoxies, urethane, stains, and sealers to building systems, machinery, manufacturing equipment and office furnishings.
Evaluate condition of the surface to be covered and select a surface preparation technique and material consistent with the type and condition of surface, coating material applied, exposure and expected condition of use. Remove old surface coating and cleans away dirt, rust, grease or other surface impurities which would deter adhesion qualities of the coating material.
Select, prepare, and apply coatings to surface using brush, rollers, or various types of spray equipment.
Perform other task such as sign painting, engraving, and installation. Work includes the use of computer-controlled software and automated engraving machines.
Perform lead paint abatement that requires a professional certification.
All newly appointed employees to the competitive (or excepted) service are subject to a probationary (or trial) period. During this time, your performance, conduct, and suitability for continued employment will be evaluated. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
This position requires a 4-year apprenticeship in painting OR 4 years of practical experience in the trade working with journeyman painters. Training must be sufficient in content and progressive acquirement of trade skills to be the substantial equivalent of a completed apprenticeship. Applicants must provide proof of completion of a 4-year apprenticeship or have 4 years of documented experience working with journeyman painters. Applicants qualifying with 4 years of experience must provide references at time of interview to verify journeyman status.
You must also meet the screen-out element, Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision, normally addressed at the beginning of the online questions.
To meet the screen-out element, applicants must have: I have the ability to perform common Painter duties. I can paint, decorate, and refinish interior and exterior surfaces that may require a protective or decorative coating. I can perform such tasks without more than normal supervision.
