Help

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducts and assists in safety audits/inspections of all WARC offices, laboratories, vehicles, shops, storage spaces, and gaging stations.
  • Reviews and supports accident investigations and reporting. Provides supports to the Center staff, navigating accident procedures and policies
  • Serves as primary safety training coordinator organizes and distributes safety information, maintaining Center Bureau Safety promotional programs. Maintains employee training records.
  • Assists in maintaining applicable safety regulations, guidelines, manuals, safety plan, and policy documents. Maintains files on all organizational safety correspondence and information.
  • Interpret and comminates safety policies to Center staff. Briefs Center management on safety recommendations.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/11/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.

To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level:
  • Specialized Experience Requirement: you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) inspecting conventional construction projects and designs to determine compliance with applicable safety standards; 2) preparing formal training materials and communicating standard safety and occupation health techniques and steps to participants; 3) advising supervisors and safety representatives of appropriate safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes or environmental conditions.. You must include hours per week worked. -OR-
  • Education: Successful completion of at least a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education (54 semester hours, 81 quarter hours or the equivalent) leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety, occupational health, or industrial hygiene. Or a Ph.D. degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours or the equivalent of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.. You must include transcripts. -OR-
  • Combination of education and experience. To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester hours of graduate education in excess of 36 or quarter hours in excess of 54. Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include hours per week and transcripts.
To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level:
  • Specialized Experience Requirement: you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) identifying and evaluating risk potential involving a wide variety of work environments & occupations; 2) directing investigation of accidents, analyzing precipitating factors and accident cause data and developing methods for prevention; 3) instructing employees on a variety of safety and occupational health subjects and participating in the development of novel or innovative safety training and promotion activities.. You must include hours per week worked.
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at the GS12 level.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

The work requires frequent travel to visit sites requiring on-site inspection. Periodically, the incumbent is required to accompany field crews and carry sampling and test equipment. Work may require extended periods of walking and standing, climbing ladders, or working in inclement weather during surveys and inspections.

Work is primarily performed in an office that is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. During surveys, investigations, and inspections, the incumbent may be required to use a variety of personal protective clothing and equipment such as hard hats, face masks, and hearing protection.
