Duties

Help
  • Manages and stores sensitive munitions using strict explosive compatibility guidelines, security regulations, and specialized warehousing methods.
  • Applies precise weight, dimensional, and capacity limits to safely configure explosive storage and stencil required cargo markings.
  • Executes shipping directives, written work orders, and safety regulations to accurately process, document, and inventory munitions.
  • Operates heavy machinery and transport vehicles safely in confined areas to handle highly sensitive, hazardous, or toxic materials.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment a valid CLD H license.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete Explosive Safety courses within 3 months of hiring and/or availability of computer access.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete ammunition and explosive classroom training within 6 months after hiring and/or availability of training slot
  • This position requires Incumbent to obtain and maintain a Forklift License for operation a forklift with the capacity of 10,000 pounds within 6 months of entering the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Munitions Handler (FLO/MVO) without more than normal supervision. To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe the work experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Experience is defined as: 1) Independently perform visual inspections for ammunition storage facilities of unexpended/expended ammunition items; 2) assisting with physical inventories and 3) operating standard weight-handling equipment or small trucks. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT Work requires standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time; bending, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from others. Light physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls of motor vehicles. Moderate physical effort is exerted in operating, turning, backing and controlling heavier vehicles. Forklift operating requires moderate physical effort in operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, and stopping the fork lift truck and raising, lowering, and titling the loads being moved. Strain maybe caused by the vibration of the fork lift truck.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS Performs assignments indoors in both comfortable and uncomfortable areas, and outdoors in all but most extremely inclement weather. Work areas maybe hot, dusty, drafty, inadequately lighted, and ventilated, etc. Is subject to cuts, abrasions, injuries from equipment, or the possibility of serious injury resulting from accidents while driving and/or unloading and unloading materials. Drives in all types of traffic and on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Incumbent also drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds. The forklift operator normally works inside in areas that are sometimes damp and drafty. Occasionally works outside in all kinds of weather. Cuts, bruises, and broken bones may result from shifting loads, toppling stacks, forklift trucks overturning, falling objects, or accidents with other moving equipment. Works with and in proximity of unusually hazardous agents and unstable material for 25 to 65 percent of the total work cycle. The potential for injury to self is negligible except as hazards relate to high explosives, incendiaries, pyrotechnics, toxic fumes, gasses, etc. Danger to self-due to exposure to unusually hazardous agents is compensated by premium pay, and no credit is given this element in establishing the grade level for the job.
