Duties

Help
  • Provides interpretations and guidance concerning the application of safety regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Provides input and recommendations in matters concerning accident prevention and force protection.
  • Investigates mishaps, obtains witness statements, photographs scenes, records circumstances of mishap and extent of injuries, estimates property damage, and prepares a final report of findings with recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Designs new safety program Standard Operating Procedures and guidelines and provides safety training on lessons learned throughout the Army which includes soldiers, civilians, and leaders.
  • Provides review and comment on policy, plans, and guidance promulgated locally and by higher headquarters for integration of safety, and applicability/compatibility with mission and safety objectives.
  • Inspections are conducted to evaluate planning, performance to standards, and effectiveness of established operational controls as described in the risk management plan.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain all applicable certification requirements for this position as outlined in the CP-12 Professional Certificate Program for Safety Professionals within six months of hire date.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • Incumbent may be required to travel TDY up to 45% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a three year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in DoDI 1400.25 V3005, Cyber Excepted Service, Employment and Placement.
  • This is a DoD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 United States Code 1599f. Appointment to this position does not confer competitive status.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe one year of specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by providing technical safety guidance for military operations; assisting in the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures; conducting safety and occupational health inspections; and/or analyzing accidents to identify causes and recommending corrective action.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
