This National Guard position is for a SELF-DIRECTED HARM PREVENTION SPECIALIST (PREV WF) (TITLE 5), Position Description Number T0031000 and is part of the NC DJS, National Guard (JFHQ-DJS - IPPW / MD 119A-003).
The area of consideration for this position is CAT 2 (Area 1) and includes North Carolina T5 CURRENT ON-BOARD. Applications will only be accepted from current Permanent and Excepted Indefinite (Title 5 Employees) Technicians assigned to the JFHQ - DJS - IPPW, North Carolina National Guard.
As a SELF-DIRECTED HARM PREVENTION SPECIALIST (TITLE 5), GS-0101-12, you will act as subject matter expert (SME) on Integrated Primary Prevention (IPP) as applied to Self-directed harm prevention; advance policies outside of the existing Resilience, Risk Reduction and Suicide Prevention (R3SP) (Army) and Suicide Prevention (Air) office for equities specific to self-directed harm primary prevention; facilitate dialogue between state programs, divisions, directorates, and other areas to capture existing upstream drivers and measures relevant to the earliest prevention of self-directed harm; maintain insight into the National Guard Bureau (NGB)IPP office to track efforts, measurements, and councils; support engagement in existing state tools and programs; establish measures of effectiveness in the primary prevention of self-directed harm; consult with and obtains consensus with NGB IPP SME cell; support the Joint Force Headquarters' (JFHQ) IPP Officer in the development and execution of The Adjutant General's (TAG)primary prevention strategic plan; assist TAG, Assistant TAG, IPP Officer, directorate, and division-level leadership with data-informed courses of action to appropriately resource self-directed harm primary prevention activities and requirements throughout the state; assist with IPP needs assessments; collect qualitative and quantitative data from Wing/Region activities relative to integrated self-directed harm prevention to ensure program fidelity; utilize outcome data and metrics from the civilian sector within their S/T/DC or region for comparison to NG data; work with other JFHQ divisions and offices to evaluate relevant NG programs for effectiveness and impact to the primary prevention of self-directed harm efforts; maintain an understanding of self-directed harm policies and the working dynamics between primary prevention and secondary prevention and post intervention; maintain collaborative relationships with the JFHQ, Wing and Brigade (BDE) Suicide Prevention, Substance Abuse Prevention, Drug Demand Reduction, and Resiliency program personnel, the NGB self-directed harm Primary Prevention SME, and other relevant support programs; has an in-depth knowledge of the programs, policies, and processes which drive Army National Guard (ARNG) and Air National Guard(ANG) drug deterrence, substance abuse, suicide post intervention and response efforts within their S/T/DC; support and participate in state-level committees, boards, and working groups; provide self-directed harm prevention data and metrics to Wing/Region Primary Prevention Integrators (PPIs), all councils and boards within the S/T/DC in coordination with and as requested by the IPP Officer; coordinate with Directors of Psychological/Behavioral Health, and other response/post intervention personnel to ensure alignment of messaging to JFHQ council or board leadership regarding self-directed harm; serve as the Wing/Region PPI's point of contact for all self-directed harm prevention efforts and conducts Site Assistance Visits (SAVs) to the Wings/Region as required. Assists the JFHQ-IPP SME cell in facilitating meetings and working groups in accordance with applicable policy and official guidance, as needed; perform other duties as assigned.

Position is designated as Essential Personnel and subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. Designation will not exceed 14calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences.
OR
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences.
OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Specialized Experience: Must have at least 36 months experience, education or training that identifies advance policies outside of the existing Resilience, Risk Reduction and Suicide Prevention (R3SP) (Army) and Suicide Prevention (Air) office for equities specific to self-directed harm primary prevention. Facilitating dialogue between state programs, divisions, directorates, and other areas to capture existing upstream drivers and measures relevant to the earliest prevention of self-directed harm. Utilize outcome data and metrics from the civilian sector within their S/T/DC or region for comparison to NG data.
