About the Position: This position is located at Madigan Army Medical Center located in Tacoma WA with the Department of Radiology.

This position is being filled at the GS-06/07 target GS-08 level. Duties described reflect the full performance GS-08 level. Duties performed in a developmental capacity will receive guidance and oversight from lead and or supervisor. Management may select at either grade with the full performance being at the GS-08.

Duties

Help
  • Perform a wide variety of complex ultrasound examinations of human patients to aid in the diagnosis of disease or injury.
  • Explain the ultrasound examining process to the patient.
  • Extend and/or modify the procedure to ensure full and accurate information.
  • Select, set up, adjust, and operate ultrasound equipment.
  • Train radiologists, physician assistants, students, and other personnel in ultrasound principles, procedures, capabilities, techniques and equipment.
  • Perform operator level maintenance and care of equipment.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Management Prefers Applicants that are Registered Ultrasound Technologist (RDMS) and/or have a certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) at the GS 8 Level
  • Required to work uncommon tours of duty hours, working either fixed or rotating shift which may include on call, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Bachelor’s degree in health care management or related study is preferred at the GS-06 level
  • 1 year of specialized training working towards Ultrasound Certification is preferred at the GS-07 Level

Specialized Experience GS-06

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing routine diagnostic ultrasound examinations such as one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes processing orders for Ultrasound requests with the understanding of basic human anatomy and physiology terminology and providing guidance on preparation for ultrasound procedures.

Specialized Experience GS-07

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing routine diagnostic ultrasound examinations such as performing routine diagnostic ultrasound examinations such as abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, renal, and thyroid-under the guidance of senior sonographers or radiologists and operate ultrasound equipment to obtain basic diagnostic images.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06)

Specialized Experience GS-08

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing routine diagnostic ultrasound examinations such as independently performing a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations (abdominal, renal, pelvic, obstetric, vascular, venous, carotid, thyroid, musculoskeletal; utilizing two-dimensional imaging and spectral Doppler to evaluate anatomy and pathology; and maintaining accurate documentation and proper storage of imaging records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07)

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

  • This position has promotion potential to the GS-08 grade level - Management may select at any of the grade levels announced. Noncompetitive promotion to the next grade level may be effected provided incumbent completes all training and development requirements, meets regulatory qualification requirements, time in grade requirement and the duties of the position are still required. Promotion is neither guaranteed nor is automatic.
  • This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
