Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
This position requires you to submit to and pass a Pre-Employment Physical Examination.
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
This position requires shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays and in other situations.
This position requires possession of a valid United States Coast Guard Chief Engineer's License commensurate with horsepower (2000 or 5000H.P) and/or tonnage (less than 1600 GRT upon Oceans, Near Coastal and Great Lakes), class, and size of vessel.
This position requires travel away from your permanent duty station up to 50% of the time wherever the Motor Vessel Benyaurd is located.

Duties include conducting periodic inspections of machinery and observes gauges, checking oil levels, motor generators, gearbox, generator temperatures, fuel levels, etc.;checking and controlling operation of heating, refrigerating, plumbing, and water supply systems for the dredge;and investigating and determining the cause and remedial action necessary when noting unusual or unnatural condition in machinery operations without more than normal supervision - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent performs work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and where the parts, equipment, or systems are in hard-to-reach places. Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in a tiring and uncomfortable position. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside, subjecting employee to varying climatic conditions, abnormal noises, temperature, danger of burns, irritation from grease and oils, bruises, strains, danger from attending moving machinery, falling overboard, electrical shock, falls on slippery decks or steep stairways, possible drowning, and crankcase explosion. A life jacket is worn at all times while on deck.
