About the Position: As the lead Engineering Technician at Chief Joseph Dam, you will manage CADD and BIM programs, support complex mechanical and electrical design projects, and serve as the As-Built Records Coordinator.

Help
  • Serve as the technical specialist and program manager for Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems.
  • Plan and prepare original layouts, computations, and complex drawings for mechanical and electrical features of hydroelectric power plant projects.
  • Provide training and technical support to engineers and staff to ensure compliance with emerging CADD standards and automated engineering tools.
  • Implement and maintain engineering content management systems and complex databases to support daily project planning and documentation.
  • Review contract submittals for CADD standard compliance and prepare detailed bills of material and quantity estimates for project designs.
  • Manage the as-built drawing program and maintain a fully retrievable archival database of project drawings to support operations and maintenance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. GS-09:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience utilizing an electronic document management system to catalog, file, and organize engineering documents; AND using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) systems to create and update drawings of equipment or facilities in an industrial or campus setting. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

GS-10:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes updating and maintaining as-built drawings within an engineering document management system; preparing engineering drawings and layouts for mechanical, electrical, or civil projects using CADD or Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems; AND reviewing and analyzing drawings to ensure compliance with established drafting standards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

GS-11:

Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes: performing computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) and building information modeling (BIM) support; planning and preparing complex mechanical and electrical engineering layouts and drawings; and reviewing design plans and specifications to assure compliance with modeling and drafting related criteria. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.

  • Eligible for situational telework only, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework".
  • Management may select at any of the grade levels advertised.
  • Non-competitive promotion potential to the intervening grade of GS-10 and the target grade of GS-11.
  • The following incentives may be authorized: Student Loan Repayment, Advanced In-hire, Relocation Incentive, Recruitment Incentive and/or Advanced Leave Accrual.
