This vacancy announcement is for a Dual-Status Technician position which requires active membership in the New Jersey National Guard (uniformed military service). Official appointment is not effective until membership within the New Jersey National Guard is confirmed by the gaining Human Resources Office.

Duties

Help

As an PAINTER, WG-4102-9, you will:

  • Prepares surfaces (i.e., metal, wood and glass) by removing rust, paint, and loose particles
  • Prepares coating materials using guidelines set by the manufacturer, by tinting, toning, etching, blending, and mixing in various additives (i.e., retardants, hardeners, drying agents, and other additives) needed for the different coatings to work properly and achieve the necessary surface appearance
  • Applies
  • coatings using acceptable methods of the trade to include special finishing techniques to achieve desired results
  • Monitors and adjusts air pressures in paint booth, controls heat settings and drying times in drying booth to achieve proper surface adhesion of coatings
  • Applies Chemical Agent Reactive Coating (CARC) materials in accordance with specifications and dimensions
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

General Experience

Must have the following experience(s):

  • Preparing surfaces (removal of rust, dirt, paint, etc)

  • Brushing, rolling, spraying and coating

  • Working with paints, varnishes, shellacs, and other coating materials

  • Using tools and equipment associated with the painting trade

  • Reading and interpreting directions

Specialized Experience

Must have 12 months of the following experience(s):

  • Preparing surfaces and utilizing coating methods and techniques

  • Sanding, using wire brushes, scraping, spackling, using putty, prepping surfaces

  • Selecting appropriate tools to complete assigned tasks

  • Brushing on, rolling on, and spraying coating materials

  • Cutting-in techniques and dip and overflow methods

  • Interpreting and following technical orders, specifications and publications
