Duties

Help
  • Provide fire suppression team support to ensure structural or non-structural fires are safely controlled and extinguished.
  • Perform fire prevention and inspection duties designed to detect and reduce or eliminate fire hazards in a high fire expectancy area.
  • Conduct fire prevention and protection training classes.
  • Employ emergency medical techniques to stabilize patients for transport to a medical facility.
  • Participate as a member of a crew to contain or control a hazardous materials incident.
  • Use hazardous material response equipment, chemicals, and supplies to control an incident.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Pre-employment and random drug screening is required.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • The position has a 60 hour work week and one 24 rotating shift.
  • This position is designated as Emergency Essential. In the event of a crisis situation or wartime, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties and requirements of the position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes carrying out fire prevention and protection inspection duties; responding to emergencies involving injury or illnesses to render life saving aid and responding to hazardous chemical spills. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Fire Inspector III, Fire Instructor II, and Fire Officer II certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M and a state or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification card indicating a future expiration date.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
