As a Supervisory National Bank Examiner/Bank Examiner, you will:

  • Serve as lead examiner providing technical guidance and leadership for supervisory activities in retail credit. Operate within the most challenging large banks in the Large & Global Financial Institutions (LGFI) portfolio. Investigate and resolve highly complex specialty issues requiring advanced technical analysis, expert judgment, and high-visibility assignment participation.
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor risk specific supervisory activities. Assess risks, develop supervisory strategies, determine exam scope, and direct assigned personnel. Independently evaluate bank functions, identify systemic risks, and recommend changes to examination policies. Implement the OCC's Supervision by Risk program.
  • Lead examination staff in discussions with senior bank management regarding findings and recommendations. Prepare complex communications to senior bank management. Maintain effective internal OCC communications, ensuring appropriate coordination and follow-up. Represent the OCC at industry and interagency meetings.
  • Supervise staff, direct resources, and manage assigned functional or risk specialty activities to carry out assigned programs and functions. Establish and communicate performance expectations and evaluate performance against OCC guidelines.
    Recommend personnel actions, including hiring, promotions, and adverse actions, etc. Resolve complaints, provide advice and counsel regarding administrative matters. Ensure the effective use of human and financial resources.
  • Manage retail credit activities, including consumer lending products such as mortgages, auto loans, student loans, credit cards, and HELOCs. Oversee consumer loan underwriting, portfolio management, collections, credit line management, and credit risk control systems.

This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.

  3. SEAD-3-Reporting-U.pdf (dni.gov), (applicable to those who hold a sensitive position or have eligibility for access to classified information).
  • This position is subject to a 10-year term limit. If selected, you may be converted and required to sign an Agreement for Term-Limited Position that details conditions.
  • Complete a one-year trial period (unless already completed).
  • Complete a background investigation (unless already completed).
  • Sign a statement that you are voluntarily leaving the competitive service for a position in the excepted service, if applicable.
  • Travel overnight or locally on an occasional basis.
  • Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
  • File an OCC Financial Disclosure Form.
  • Complete a financial disclosure review and resolve any ethics issues.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement:

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the NB-V band level. Examples of specialized experience for this position include:

  • Leading audits, reviews and/or examinations within a financial institution to identify, manage, and remediate risks as well as assess compliance with appropriate banking laws and/or regulations; AND
  • Experience leading and developing bank examiners on bank supervision activities in financial institutions.

The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

  • This position is a Step 2 level position within the NB-VI pay band. Step 2 level positions are distinguished by additional job complexity, responsibility, and advanced skill levels required by the work.
  • If you are a current OCC employee who previously received a waiver determination permitting you to retain bank securities due to extenuating circumstances, please note that this determination may be rescinded if the nature of your duties changes. We strongly suggest that you discuss the potential implications of any change in duties on a prior securities determination with your ethics official.

  • Salary range includes 43.82% geographical pay.
