A GS-2210-11, IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (INFOSEC):

  • Conducts audits of information systems compliance, to include network devices; servers; and end user devices, related to security standards, guides and application updates to enable and ensure accreditation of all systems IAW with all command, Army, and DOD security directives, policies and procedures. Ensures that all elements are in compliance with guidance concerning accreditation of automated information systems, risk management, control of computer viruses, and other similar issues.
  • Reviews Account Validation System, approves new user accounts, and conducts ongoing audits to ensure all privileged and user accounts comply with DoD8140 and Army Standards respectively.
  • Conducts investigation of security incidents, reports findings to leadership and remediates findings based on guidance from the cybersecurity service provider and IAW with all command, Army, and DOD security directives, policies and procedures to include: computer viruses and sanitation of information from organization.
  • Reviews submissions to Technical Review Board, or other bodies proposing changes, to network or information systems and applications and by making recommendations to senior cybersecurity supervisor and the Change Control Board.
  • Maintains an operational knowledge base of past, current and possible future threats to the security posture by attending courses, conferences, seminars, online research, and information sharing between other Cybersecurity/Information Assurance professionals. Must anticipate the effects of new emerging technology and develop policies to control it to prevent security violations. Makes recommendations regarding policies and/or procedures to prevent or react to security concerns.

Military Grades: E4 - E9, WO1 - CW3

Desired Military Assignments: Immaterial, 00F

- Applicants need not be assigned to the position or possess the MOS to apply or be considered for selection. Selected applicant must be assigned to a compatible Military position and attain MOS within 1 year of appointment action.

- May be required to successfully complete a trial period.

- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

- All soldiers, civilian employees, and contractor employees who drive Army-owned or leased vehicles must complete any training per the Army Traffic Training Program outlined in AR 385-10, when they start working for the Army. Must have a valid Washington state and military driver's license. Must be able to obtain a Government Travel Card (GTC) and be able to attend all schools deemed necessary by the supervisor.

- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

- Must maintain membership in the WA Army National Guard for continued employment.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.

- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

- Position requires ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.

- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
E
xperience, education, and/or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have at least 36 months experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.

OR

1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade.

***Note: To qualify under the one-year Specialized Experience (SE) provision (when stated in the SE section), you must provide either:
Two SF-50s (or equivalent) showing you were in the same occupational series at the next lower grade for at least one full year. The two SF-50s must span that full one-year period, from the older SF-50 to the newer SF-50 and reflect employment with the same federal agency.
-or-
One SF-50 (or equivalent) if your resume shows at least one year of continuous employment in the position reflected on the SF-50 (or equivalent).

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degreeor3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

  • Knowledge of and skill in applying IT security principles, methods, and tools; and the IT security environment sufficient to participate in defining IT security requirements; and to implement and support IT security applications.
  • knowledge of and skill in applying methods for evaluating, implementing, and disseminating IT security tool and procedures; IT security certification and accreditation requirements; network operations and protocols; and computer forensics principles.
