The Housekeeping Aid (HKA) - Environmental Services (EVS) Technicians who maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families are essential to the patient care experience at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). A VA healthcare career as a HKA-EVS Lead Technician means working alongside other Veterans, who make up 85 percent of the housekeeping staff.
This position is a working leader for housekeeping operations throughout the VA Medical Center(s). Leads three (3) or more Housekeeping Aids and others as assigned in performing their duties while performing the full range of housekeeping tasks required to maintain the Medical center and other facility units in a clean, organized and sanitary condition.
- Follows EMS and Medical Center policies and procedures, VA regulations and verbal instructions from EMS Management.
- Communicates instructions from the Supervisor to the employees and then validates the completion of the work assigned.
- Coordinates projects with nurses and other area supervisors to ensure work timely and successful completion. This position sets the pace of each task, demonstrates methods and techniques and provides direction to assigned employees in their proper usage is cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Ensures all tasks are complete and deadlines are met.
As a HKA-EVS Lead Technician, you will perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping duties. Veterans rely on the skills of these professionals to keep patient areas clean and safe by addressing spills quickly, discarding trash, installing light bulbs in halls and rooms, and vacuuming and polishing floors.
Duties include cleaning wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas. HKA-EVS Technicians sweep, mop, scrub (machine) floors, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture, empty waste baskets, clean light globes and Venetian blinds, wash walls, windows and ceilings by climbing small ladders, refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers and move furniture. HKA-EVS Technicians carry out assignments with minimal supervision.
Work Schedule: Full Time. Shifts vary and may include days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Shift schedules will be assigned at time of selection.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
